Chapter 1

January 22, 2010

The first chapter of this book reminds me of a mix between my Human Communications class and the Into to Public Relations class. Any type of public relations writing completely has to embrace the concepts of the human psyche in order to be successful. There are millions of publics meaning that public relations professionals have to be able to focus and direct their campaigns perfectly.  I feel like everyone KNOWS that they should avoid spelling errors, poor sentence structure, wrong words, stereotypes or bias, jargon, redundancies, and politically incorrect language BUT the actuality of properly following these guidelines is a different story! I think I could learn new information every day and still not properly know everything about the public relations field. The book, Public Relations Writing and Media Techniques, by Dennis L. Wilcox, says that “public relations is actually composed of four core components: research, planning, communication, and evaluation.”  This is important because all public relations professionals should follow this plan in execution of their public relations endeavors.
